چکیده

We have constructed semiempirical equations of state of Al, Au, Cu, Pt, Ta, and W, which within experimental error bars describe the available shock-wave, ultrasonic, x-ray, and thermochemical data in the temperature range from 10–20 K up to the melting temperature and to compression x=V /V0=0.5–0.7. The comparison of the calculated room-temperature isotherms for these metals with quasihydrostatic measurements supports recently proposed ruby pressure scales. We recommend a new ruby pressure scale in the form P =A / 0 1+m / 0 with parameters A=1884 GPa and m=5.5. The cross check on independent data confirms the obtained PVT equations of state of Ag, Al, Au, Cu, Pt, Ta, W, MgO, and diamond. The equations of state of these materials obtained here provide accurate and versatile means for calibrating pressure at all temperatures below the melting point. Furthermore, they can be used for accurate tabulation of thermodynamic properties heat capacities, entropies of these reference substances in a wide P-T range.

Modern techniques in measuring elasticity of Earth materials at high pressure and high temperature using ultrasonic interferometry in conjunction with synchrotron X-radiation in multi-anvil apparatus

In the past 6 years, state-of-the-art techniques have been developed for the studies of elastic properties of polycrystalline and single-crystal materials using simultaneous ultrasonic and X-ray diffraction techniques at high pressures and temperatures in multi-anvil apparatus. The capability of these techniques is illustrated using recent data for mantle phases such as forsterite, wadsleyite, ...

High-pressure melting of MgO from (Mg,Fe)O solid solutions

Magnesium oxide (MgO) is a significant component of planetary interiors, particularly Earth’smantle and other rocky planets within and beyond our solar system; thus its high-pressure, high-temperature behavior is important to understanding the thermochemical evolution of planets. Laser-heated diamond-anvil cell (DAC) experiments on (Mg,Fe)O ferropericlase up to ~40GPa show that previous DAC exp...

Laminar and Turbulent Aero Heating Predictions over Blunt Body in Hypersonic Flow

In the present work, an engineering method is developed to predict laminar and turbulent heating-rate solutions for blunt reentry spacecraft at hypersonic conditions. The calculation of aerodynamic heating around blunt bodies requires alternative solution of inviscid flow field around the hypersonic bodies. In this paper, the procedure is of an inverse nature, that is, a shock wave is assumed a...

The Effect of Transition Metals Incorporation on the Structural and Magnetic Properties of Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles

Pure and doped magnesium oxide nanoparticles were successfully synthesized employing a sol-gel process. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by thermal differential analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed the crysta...
